While on the Gypsy Tour, Korey Kryder did a number on his thumb. It happened about 30 seconds in, so needless to say he was bummed.

....but being the badass that he is, he just smoked more cigarettes, drank more beer and got back in the game. He kept on riding and shooting photos and waited until a couple of days after the trip was over to get it looked at.

Yesterday was a kick ass day here in our little section of NY.

Eastshore and FBM hosted a little jam titled "Joel Barnett's Upstate Fiasco and BMX swap meet. A bunch of little events like long jump off a 1ft tall kicker, and longest 360 went, off in the parking lot. (mostly gravel lot)

Taking the win for the 360 challenge was ETIKET rider Jacob Hamlin. He won a whole bunch of prizes and managed to take home some of the parking lot embedded in his hand. Then everyone moved inside and a best trick comp went down. Prize was an FBM frame, so the riders were throwing down.

Top spot went to ETIKET rider Vince Smith,with a fakie wallride to the rafters. Ya couldn't go any higher than he did. I give props to V-Rad, Jake, and all that participated. It was a good show.

On Friday, April 17th we received some really bad news. Due to the economy in general and the uncertainty of securing enough sponsors to offset costs of the Harborshred ’09 contest specifically, the Harborfest festival organizers have decided to postpone the plans for the event. What this means is that the Harborshred weekend, as it had been originally planned will be canceled.

After a weekend of some serious soul-searching and ok almost a few tears (I’ll admit I was crushed), we have decided to re-tool the event to a smaller, more manageable size and scope. The original goals of the whole event from the very beginning was to: raise money for free and low-cost parks, show the local kids that anything is possible with hard work and determination and finally to have fun. We think that we can still accomplish all these goals with your help and support. I know a lot of the riders have huge hearts and are as passionate as we are about providing free and low cost parks for riders and have committed to participate in our new event, Freedom Jam.

Here is an outline of the new plan:
A Pro/Am contest will be held on Saturday, July 25th from noon until 4 at Freedom Skate/BMX Park in Mexico, NY. This location will still attract plenty of spectators and the local riders will be incredibly excited to ride with some of their heroes. There will still be a cash prize for the pro contest and product prizes for the amateur contest. Freedom is located 12 miles east of Oswego so the contest will be finished up in plenty of time to get out and enjoy the crazy mayhem Saturday night. There will be an after party at Bruce’s private warehouse with ramp riding and plenty of fun. The event will be a great time for riders and fans alike.

This whole idea has always been about having fun and proving anything is possible if you dream big. While the news we received on Friday was heart breaking, we aren’t going to let it stop the momentum we have to raise awareness for the need for safe, accessible facilities everywhere.

Thanks a lot for all of the support I have gotten over these last few months…truly I have felt like this has been a team effort to support a cause we all believe in. Please take some time to consider this new event “Freedom Jam” and let me know whether or not we can still count on you being part of this awesome albeit slightly smaller event. If you are interested in registering for the Pro Am contest, please message me back.

The Chicken Launcher

In a recent issue of "Meat & Poultry" magazine, editors quoted from "Feathers," the publication of the California Poultry Industry Federation, reporting the following story:

The US Federal Aviation Administration has a unique device for testing the strength of windshields on airplanes. The device is an air cannon that launches a dead chicken at a plane's windshield at approximately the speed the plane flies. The theory is that if the windshield doesn't crack from the carcass impact, it'll survive a real collision with a bird during flight.

It seems that British Rail was very interested in this and wanted to test a windshield on a brand new, ultra high speed locomotive they're developing. They borrowed the FAA's chicken launcher, loaded the chicken and fired.

The ballistic chicken shattered the windshield, went through the engineer's chair, broke an instrument panel and embedded itself in the back wall of the engine cab.

The British engineers were stunned and asked the FAA to review the test to see if everything was done correctly.

The FAA checked the test thoroughly and had one recommendation: "Try thawing the chicken next time."

Korey and I discovered this restaurant called "Quakersteak & Lube" in Syracuse. they have an iron maiden poster on the wall, PBR tallboys, and this thing called a "lubetube" that is like 9 beers with a tap near the bottom, and the best chicken wings maybe ever... so if we fall off you can probably find us there. Etiket is blowin up at the cement park here too. everybody's rocking shirts and stickers. I'm working on a little web edit which u will get eventually."

First things first.
The Local Exposure Tour was at X-Dreams Friday night. I was pretty bad ass seeing some of the local boys showing what they got. A ton of good tricks went down by all, and when all was said and done JOHN GOODMAN was named the winner. He definitely deserved it. Congrats John!

Its Friday night, and I have gas so bad that lighting a match wont even mask the smell. All I can say is be happy that I am nowhere near you right now.

NATHAN POWELL has a 2 page picture in this month's issue of BMX PLUS. Its the contents pages and it is a bad ass picture. Also in the same issue, in the moving pictures section he has a 7 shot sequence of a good gap to double peg down a long rail.

MATT SCHILLING got his ass kicked by a drag queen. Matt was all pissed when she/he was not interested in getting busy, so Matt insulted her/him and proceeded to take one of the worst ass whoopings this world has ever seen.

...................OK......Actually....All kidding aside.
Matt fell while riding his local trails, and broke his EYE SOCKET and CHEEK BONE.
It was a close one and we are all happy that he is still around to make fun of.

TUNG LUONG might have broken his wrist when a car hit him last week, forcing him into another car and then over the bars. Did the car stop? Hell no! Did Tung go to the hospital? Hell no!

This past weekend was the KING OF THE COAST skate contest at X-DREAMS. Rumor has it that everyone skated awesome and it was a pretty good time. EVAN DOW took home $250 and first place. JAPHEY DOW got third and MIKE TERRULI got sixth. KICK ASS!

Saturday night (while riding at X-DREAMS) RYAN SOUVA put his knuckle into the ground hard enough for it to EXPLODE. I am serious! I got to see his bone...So we hopped in my van and I took him to get some stitches. 7 stitches to be exact.

In this shot the doctor is holding up one of the flaps of skin so we could get a better look inside.

Man loses part of ear in accident

A 21-year-old man lost part of his ear after a motor vehicle struck the bicycle he was riding Saturday, according to the Auburn Police Department. Christopher Squadrito was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon by the TLC Ambulance Service following the South Fulton Street accident in which he was thrown onto his left side from the bicycle. Thomas E. Moore, 41, of State Street Road, Auburn, was driving westbound on the street around 1:30 p.m. when he reached to the passenger-side of his 2000 Dodge and the vehicle veered. Moore's car knocked Squadrito off his bicycle and then struck a 1998 GMC parked on the west side of the street. The GMC sustained extensive rear damage. Both Moore's vehicle and the GMC had to be towed from the scene. No tickets have been issued at this time, police said.

As I have mentioned before, Chris Squadrito is officially ETIKET'S first sales rep. Well I thought I would post a few photos of him all healthy.

He got hit by a car and was in rough shape. His head hit the ground so hard that it ripped most of his ear off and even ripped out some of his hair. When I talked to him he said that he had some bald patches and he broke his toe. He also said that after the accident the first thing he did was jump up and check to see if his bike was o.k. This kid is a bad ass!

He is going to see a specialist about getting a new ear. Good luck and get well!!!!!!

Its official......I am back on my bike again after the whole broken ankle thing. It still hurts, but not enough to not ride.

The new cursive shirt is selling well and I would like to point out that Ben Pritchard was the brain that this design was born from. Thanx Ben.

The new colorway of the 3 STAR logo is done and is already at some shops. Check Krudco and Outlaw for the new stuff. More shops as soon as I get time to drop them off.

I had 5 of this colorway printed on Long Sleeved shirts. There is one at each shop, so go get'em.

A while back my friend Sean Weaver got his bike stolen from his porch in Elmira. Matt was keeping me updated on weather they had found it yet, and he sent me this:

Zak, was with his mama, after going to court(lol) and saw the kid riding by. He made his mom stop the car and ran up to the kid. He said "give me the bike" the kid was like "No, this is my bike" and Zak said "No, that is Sean Weavers bike" So the kid tried to resist, and Zak got all ghetto on his ass and pulled his shirt off and said, "I just got out of court and I'm getting violated anyway, so I'll just beat your ass and take the bike, I don't give a fuck I'm going to jail anyway". So the kid folded like a cheap card table from Sears, Zak pushed him off the bike and rode it back to mama's car!!! End of story for now. But now we all know who the kid is and what he looks like and who his friends are. SO THE NEXT TIME SOME PUNK WANTS TO TAKE A BIKE we know who's face to smash in first. The end.

I just called in the order for 250 shirts that I will be picking up later today. Then......off to the printer.

Last night I called Tung Luong to go ride and this is what I got from him-

"I was riding Thursday, by myself as how these situations I get into all start. And I decide to try cypress rail. I go get on it no prob first try, and keep falling stair side, finally figure out the lean and get it, and repeat. Then I try crooked grinding it but only get halfway and flip over, and bleed from my hand and my wrist kills. I should have stopped here. But I wanted to just do the rail again. I hit it a few and at one point come off funny and catch the edge of a stair with my right foot and roll it bad. I have my headphones on but heard something. Wasn't sure if this was a break or what. So I get up walk over to my bike praying for a non broken ankle again (as I broke the same ankle prior). I ride about 2-3 miles home, walk into my house pretend as if nothing happened to my legs as the rents are just chillin. Walk up stairs freaking out. I decide to sleep it off to see how bad it gets. I wake up and its about the size of a tennis ball. I decide I should go to the hospital but am not sure about my insurance as I have my own student insurance now.(Tung is a teacher) I call the insurance company, and say should I go to the hospital? I don't know what it covers but im like 95% sure my leg is broken in some sort. The lady on the other end begins to panic and tell me to go to the hospital. Myself having been through this before am really calm thank her and start asking questions about my plan. She freaks out says to stop talking to her and go to the hospital. So I do. I drive to the hospital but decide parking is like $5. No way ill walk it. So I park 6 blocks away and start hoofing it, with a serious limp and no crutches. At block 3, a kind Thug gave me a ride in his escalade. I thanked him, got x-rays, and such, went to a orthopedic specialist and they said I had an "avulsion fracture" where my ankle separated. Lucky for me it was very slight, I had more of a sprain with a like avulsion. So I got a walking boot and and crutches. Went to my car went to work where they sent me home for the week. So that second I just took off for Vermont without telling anyone. I left took some clothes laptop and hid in the mountains. I went fishing, ate lobster, learned how to make wontons, hung out with my GF, went to some art festival, and within that time of thurs to Sunday, I went from crutches, to just walking boot, to just ace bandage and shoe. The doctor said I should feel comfortable to walk in 2-3 weeks. When I heard that I knew I'd be walking in a week. So im basically there. Hopefully riding by next week this time."

First I would like to say congrats to Matt and his wife Shel. They have a bun in the oven that will be here ........sometime next year. They are so happy and I am happy for them. WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOO! He is smiling on the inside.

I asked Chris to give me a little run down of the "Brian Lewis Lawn Massacre"
Here is what he sent me=
"Alright, so one night Brian Lewis, Nick Spath, Ryan Forbes, Kyle Opitz and myself are drinking at Jeff Verhulst's. Forbes leaves early because he's not drinking, Kyle and I split 2/ 12 packs of PBR. Brian Lewis drives my car and we drop Kyle off at home. We do a few lawnjobs and next thing we know there are 5 or 6 cop cars, and over 10 cops. Brian's in handcuffs and I'm in the backseat of a car while Nick cracks jokes to them. Brian gets reamed with 7 or 8 tickets, I get hit with two, Nick gets away with nothing. Cops take Brian down to the station, and one drives Nick and I back to Jeff's house at 5am, who then drives us home and I sleep until 3:30 the next day, then go get my car from the impound in Greece."

I was wondering about the reason for this=

Its Ben Stalets birthday today (the 10th) and he finds out if he can get his cast off. I hope its yes so he can get back on his bike soon.

This last thing is kind of a bummer.(by "bummer" I mean funny to me and bummer for him) A kid down the street from me got his series one ripped off. He did get it back though. When the cops found it.........

Here is photo of SCOTT TWIFORD clocking some footy, that his girlfriend Annie sent me. Thanx darlin'.
She also informed me that he now has a phone. I have yet to try it, so I am still a skeptic. We will see.

I stole some photos of EVAN DOW off of his myspace. They are from the mini comp at the warped tour. As I mentioned he got 2nd and $200.

TOM DILLON is at woodward for a while and when I talked to him last he was pretty stoked to be there. I will get some stories from him when he gets back and hopefully some pictures.

I recently added TYLER DAVIS to the skate roster, and right after that he won the next two contests he entered. The most recent being (as I mentioned) the warped tour. This kid shreds anything in his path.

NATHAN POWELL will be back in full force soon. This is good , because that means he will be able to finnish filming his part for the Perspectives DVD. It should be out by fall, so I will keep ya posted.

It also looks like ETIKET will have a commercial in that same DVD........Awwww Shit! Anyone have any ideas for a commercial?

Congrats to some of the ETIKET Skate team. Today was the Mini ramp contest at the Vans Warped Tour. Tyler Davis got 1st ($400), Evan Dow got 2nd ($200), and Dylan Luehm got 4th (free shoes). That rules.

It was so hot today that my boss called me and told me "to stay home because he did not want me to die." Nice!
